Well, I didn't really expect Roland to like the magnolia I'd done in our room the other day, but even with 2 coats not quite covering the blue on the first wall, I was struggling to like it myself. It just didn't quite look right and we couldn't put a finger on why.
It could have been the fact that the lightbulb was bare at the time (as we'd taken down the previous, paperglobe shade, and were missing a piece needed to put up the replacement), so it shone big time off the now silk wall (previously matt blue), and made every flaw obvious [ should point out there are lots of flaws anyway, and that's why it was matt paint to start with], but it was hard to know if it was that, or the shock of seeing it such a different colour, or because it wasn't finished, it didn't look good....
Anyway, after a long discussion, we agreed to do it in Matt Magnolia, and repaint the border at the top in a dark-ish brown, which will mark the difference between the walls and ceiling (once it's white again), and tie in with the other wooden items we have in the room. Exact colour to be decided once the walls are finished.
We've also decided that Pippa's room will have to lose it's terracotta colour (just by painting, not by stripping the paper), and go to either white, or magnolia. If white, then one accent wall. It's hard explaining to a 3 year old who likes orange, that her room can't stay orange in order to sell the house...!
