Cats don't really like snow. It gives them cold paws!! As we are in the process of sorting out the back garden (putting more grass down - well obviously not right at the moment in the snow), they have created a desire line down the edge of the existing grass. But when it's covered by snow, they'll just walk anywhere that's got the least amount of snow on it.
George looked out of the door last week as I came in, but managed no more. Usually he dashes poast me, has a quick check there's no other cats around, wees, and dashes back in.
